Chirico

Giorgio de Chirico (1888 – 1978) was an Italian artist. He profoundly influenced the surrealist movement. Surrealists who acknowledged de Chirico’s influence include Max Ernst, Salvador Dali, Rene Magritte. His works also influenced filmmakers in the 1950s through 1970s. In the paintings of his metaphysical period, De Chirico developed a repertoire of motifs-empty arcades, towers, elongated shadows, mannequins and many others that created a strange world of emptiness and forlornness.
